Hello, my name is Alana. You might know me from my published essays and reported features on pop culture, identity cultivation in the context of the 21st century’s particular vices and virtues, and good old fashioned American suffering.
My work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Sunday Times, Elle, and VICE but my best work was published in The New Inquiry, Matter, MEL, The Cut, and Religion Dispatches. It is considerably more entertaining than I’ve made it sound in the description above, but judge for yourself by poking around the links to my writing here.
I published the essay collection All The Lives I Want: Essays About My Best Friends Who Happen to Be Famous Strangers in 2017 to largely positive reviews that you can read here though I also encourage potential readers to judge the book by its cover, which is an absolute delight as evidenced by #allthelivesiwant on Instagram.
I split my spare time between wandering forests and mountains in my area, learning Slavic languages and lore, treating my enormous gray cat like an enchanted 15th-century Carpathian nobleman, all with a busy schedule of maladaptive daydreaming.
I identify primarily as a Gemini and a coward.
